Nightlife isn’t typically what draws people to visit Maui, but that doesn’t mean there’s nothing to do! In a jam-packed vacation schedule, nothing is worse than running out of day, before you run out of energy. Fortunately, being away from bustling cities gives Maui a charm of its own and whole new list of nighttime activities! Here are a couple you need to try during your stay on the Valley Isle.
Friday Town Parties
Every Friday, a different Maui town holds a community party, featuring local food and drink vendors, pop up shops, selling products or art, and plenty of live entertainment. These weekly gatherings are a great chance to experience the flavors, sounds and culture of Hawaii! Wailuku, Lahaina, Makawao and Kihei host these street parties (the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th week of the month respectively) every month. Although, Wailuku and Makawao have temporarily suspended these parties, Kihei and Lahaina are still up and running monthly so don’t miss out!
Stargazing on Haleakala
The views from Haleakala are breathtaking anytime of day. Sunrise is a popular time of day to visit, but those who stay for sunset have the option to stay a bit longer, for an unobstructed view of the night sky. There is little light pollution to be found anywhere on Maui, but stargazing atop Haleakala adds even more magic. For anyone unable to make the journey up Haleakala, most beaches after sunset are also great for watching the stars (just be sure to know what time parking lots close!).
Night Diving
Maui’s waters are home to countless tropical fish and other sea creatures. Many of these can be seen snorkeling or diving during the day, but there are many others that can only be seen at night. Fortunately, guided night dives by companies like Dive Maui can show you a whole new world of marine wildlife you won’t find anywhere else. If you plan on exploring the ocean at night, we highly recommend getting a guide to help keep your dive both interesting and safe.
Sunset Dinner Cruise
The ocean and sunsets, it’s hard to find a better pair. Enjoying dinner on the ocean while you watch the sun set might be the only way to top it. Whether it’s the middle of whale season or the middle of summer, it’s impossible to beat and evening on the water watching the sun disappear over the horizon. There are plenty of options to book these cruises out of both Maalaea or Lahaina on vessels of any size, just be sure to book ahead of time as these dinners can fill up quickly, especially during whale season!
