Maui Beach Vacation Rentals: Pros and Cons

Maui is a gorgeous island with over 30 miles of beach to enjoy, and a plethora of maui beach vacation rentals to pick from.

When you're planning your trip, it can get easy to be overwhelmed by the options and also confused by the language. Never fear, Vaca Maui is here!

Why choose a beach vacation rental?

The obvious reason to choose a beach vacation rental is to enjoy the beach. (Duh! Don't worry, we knew that).

Hear the waves crashing as you fall asleep, wake up to the ocean as you sip your morning coffee... It's truly an idyllic scene.

As you've been looking up places to stay, you've probably noticed the following two terms: beachfront and oceanfront properties. If you're finding the difference confusing, you're not alone!

Oceanfront versus Beachfront

Oceanfront properties typically mean they can see the ocean, but it won't be in your backyard. (Like our condos at Kihei Holiday, where there's a street between you and Sugar Beach but you're still close enough to taste the salt in the air).

Beachfront, by contrast, does mean it's going to be in your backyard! (Like our property at Kanai A Nalu).

Pros and Cons

There's a lot of pros to choosing Maui beach vacation rentals! Who doesn't want to be close to the beach?

Easy beach access, great views, calming ambiance noises... there's so much to love about it.

Truthfully the only drawback to a beachfront condo is that they might cost more, but even that depends on what the other condo is going for!

With easy access to the beach from pretty much anywhere on the island, you might find that the beachfront condo is most worth it when you're planning a beach-focused R&R vacation.

Beaches on Maui

Whether you end up in a beachfront or oceanview condo, the truth is that you'll never be too far from the ocean!

Choose from a world-class selection of beaches, perfectly suited for whatever activity you enjoy most.

Sugar Beach

A relatively undeveloped strip of sand, Sugar beach runs for 5 miles between Kihei and Maalaaea. It's the perfect spot for a long walk at sunrise or sunset, sunbathing, and kite surfing!

You'll occasionally find waves for bodyboarding, but typically this isn't the best swimming beach. It is also prone to getting intense winds during the afternoons, so we recommend getting there earlier rather than later.

Charley Young

A relaxed beach with a sheltered rock cove on one end, Charley Young is a fantastic swimming beach. You'll need to park about a block away from the beach, and then it's just a quick walk down to the sand.

It's not challenging but if you're planning on bringing a lot of gear please keep this in mind!

With plenty of shade and calm shallow water, this is a great spot to bring the whole family.

Polo Beach

Located in Wailea, Polo Beach is a beautiful spot fronting the Kea Lani Hotel and the Polo Beach Club. Guess where it got it's name?

Tricked ya! The beach's full name is Ke One o Polo, which translates to "the sand is not thick." Be prepared, you might see or feel some rocks poking through the sand.

This is a particularly good beach for snorkeling and swimming. Plus with the additional bathrooms and shower nearby it's a fantastic spot to hang out for a whole day!
